Australis was first released in 1997 and was then completely re-written to generate Australis v7 in 2006. The recently released Australis v8 is designed to perform highly automated 3D coordinate measurements and photogrammetric camera calibration from multi-station digital image networks (eg multi-view stereo and convergent image configurations) comprising either one or a number of cameras. Australis supports automatic measurement of targeted object points as well as producing 3D point clouds of untargeted scenes. It is equally useful for either high-precision metrology applications using ‘metric’ digital cameras (or scanned imagery), or low- to moderate-accuracy measurement employing consumer-grade digital cameras. Australis is ideal for industry use and for the teaching of photogrammetric principles and practices, and it is a valuable tool for both research and practical measurement applications.

Features of Australis V8 include:

• पूरी तरह से स्वचालित 3D समन्वय मापन कोडित लक्ष्य के माध्यम से
• Automatic rigorous photogrammetric orientation of targetless multi-image networks
• Automatic 3D point cloud generation via a Structure-from-Motion approach
• 3D coordinate measurement accuracy to 1:50,000 with an off-the-shelf digital SLR camera
• Very intuitive and easy to operate
• Automatic recognition of the camera
• Fully automatic camera calibration, as well as on-the-job self-calibration
• Robust and reliable error detection through on-line data processing
• Flexible generation of free-form curves and segment-based photo-textured 3D models
• Accommodates manual digitization of untargetted feature points, where required
• Support for 3D coordinate transformation and geometric analysis
• Supports object point and camera station control/constraints
• Automatically initiated computational sequences

With its ease of use, Australis is also an ideal tool for teaching photogrammetric measurement concepts
